Emergency First Response Course Koh Tao

The Emergency First Response Primary & Secondary Care course is designed to build confidence and increase the willingness of lay rescuers when they are faced with a medical emergency.
It is also an important prerequisite for the PADI Rescue Diver course if you do not have a recognized first aid and CPR certificate.
You will learn simple steps to follow when faced with a medical emergency. You will have lots of time to practice applying the skills in a relaxed learning environment.

    The course consists of two sections:

  • Skill practice and development

    At Koh Tao Diving School we take our customer promise very seriously. All courses are conducted with a maximum of 4 students per EFR Instructor.
    Our Instructors are highly trained and will ensure you receive lots of attention and most importantly, progress at your own pace in a relaxed environment.

    Course Schedule

    Day 1:
    09.00 – 11.30: Orientation, Watch EFR Video & complete knowledge development
    11.30 – 12.30: LUNCH
    12.30 – 17.00: Skills workshops and scenarios
    Final Exam
    You are now certified as an Emergency First Responder in Primary & Secondary care for the next 24 months. EFR Course Orientation & Knowledge Development
    We start the Emergency First Response Primary & Secondary course at 09.00 with an Orientation.
    We then review some knowledge development including learning about how to recognize life-threatening problems and prioritize emergency procedures.
    We discuss protecting yourself against bloodborne pathogens using the AB-CABS system of care and monitoring a patient's cycle of care.
    Your Instructor will guide you through the knowledge development and show you the EFR Video that covers the knowledge development and introduce the primary and secondary care skills you need to master. Your Instructor will integrate the knowledge development with the skill practice and will demonstrate each skill to you before allowing you an opportunity to try it yourself through role-playing and practice.     The EFR skill sessions and role-playing medical emergency scenarios will be conducted by your Instructor and will include the following skills:

  • Emergency Oxygen Use Emergency First Response Secondary Care (first aid) covers injuries or illnesses that are not immediately life-threatening.
    Secondary Care (first aid) skills taught in this course:
  • Injury Assessment
  • Illness Assessment
  • Bandaging
  • Splinting for Dislocations and Fractures

    The course Includes first aid treatment reference for the following emergencies: Allergic Reactions (incl. anaphylaxis), Asthma, Bruises, Burns, Chemical Burns, Choking (adult, child, infant), CPR (adult, child, infant), Cuts, Dental Injuries, Diabetic Problems. Dislocations and Fractures, Electrical Injuries, Eye Injuries, First Aid Kit Assembly, Fish Spine Injury, Frostbite, Heat Exhaustion, Heatstroke, Heart Attack, Hypothermia.
    Insect Stings, Jellyfish Stings, Octopus Bites, Poisoning, Scrapes, Seizures, Snake Bites, Spider Bites, Sprains and Strains, Stroke, Temperature Related Injuries and Venomous Bites and Stings.
    As a diver, the Emergency First Response course builds on your existing diving course knowledge as an Open Water or Advanced Open Water diver and is a required certificate as a part of a PADI Divemaster course.
